Admissions

If you are considering a place for your child here, we would be pleased to meet you and talk about what we have to offer. If you would like to arrange a visit, please do get in touch with us by phone, email or letter.

Although we are our own admissions authority and are responsible for setting our admissions policy and making decisions when an application is made to join us, we use the services of Devon County Council’s Admissions Service to manage applications on our behalf. For further information or advice about the admissions process, parents can call My Devon on 0345 155 1019 or visit www.devon.gov.uk/admissions.

How to apply

Most children join our school at the normal round, the main intake into school from the start of September in Reception. As a parent, you can apply for a place to the Local Authority.

Do come and talk with us if you are interested in a place in a different year group for any reason.

Applications for residents of Devon are made between 15 November and 15 January for primary schools at www.devon.gov.uk/admissionsonline.

If your child lives in another LA, including Cornwall, Dorset, Plymouth, Somerset, and Torbay you should apply through that council. The closing dates are the same nationally.

For questions about your child joining the school or just about the admissions process in general, please don’t hesitate to contact the school direct or contact Devon School Admissions Service on 0345 155 1019 or by email to admissions@devon.gov.uk  Devon publishes guides to the admissions process: the Step by Step Guide and the In-Year Guide at http://devon.cc/prospectus

If you are interested in your child joining the school in-year (once the academic year has started), you can apply for a place through Devon County Council at www.devon.gov.uk/admissionsonline

The Appeals Process

Any parent who is refused admission has the right to an appeal that is independent of the school. We use the Independent Devon Admissions Appeal Panel to handle any appeals being made. For further information, please call My Devon or visit: https://new.devon.gov.uk/educationandfamilies/school-information/apply-for-a-school-place/school-appeals

When are appeals held?
Appeal hearings are held during the working day. They are not held at weekends, in the evening or during the school holidays.
Generally, we cannot accommodate working patterns and therefore you may need to book time off work. If you know that you cannot attend an appeal on certain dates (for example, you are on holiday) please include this information on the appeal form. If possible, we will try to avoid hearing your appeal on these dates.
Appeal hearings may be held remotely (by video or telephone call), at the Council offices on Topsham Road in Exeter or at other external venues.
You will receive written notification of the date, time and arrangements for your hearing no later than 10 school days before the hearing. The notification will include the school’s submission and a deadline for the submission of any further evidence you may wish to provide other than that already included with your initial appeal form.
